LEFT, TOP TO BOTTOM We relied heavily on Southern hospitality to pull this trip off. Boats were provided by friends and river shuttles were conducted by the local mailman. For Josh Edwards, returning to North Carolina and fishing his childhood rivers with friends was a homecoming for the ages. RIGHT, TOP TO BOTTOM “After days of bad weather, late nights and thousands of empty casts, Jed and I were physically and mentally drained and things were getting a bit testy in the boat. The river was trying it’s hardest to break us, and we were hanging on by the hair of a buck tail.” After the river blew out to a point where it was pointless to fish, we cut our losses and went for a drive. We ended up in Rural Retreat, VA. No matter where you’re from or what state you’re in, an old barbershop is a fine place to gather knowledge. Eddie Attwell of Rural Retreat and angler Kent Davis of Denver chat about the current state of affairs. 090 APPALACHIA
