• TOP TO BOTTOM • For a good part of one fishing season, “Fence Dog” watched fishermen come and go along a San Carlos dirt road. The fence is still worn and scratched from those two front paws. San Carlos is a rough town for the ubiquitous street dogs who roam as packs and fight at night, sending out piercing snarls, whines and fierce territorial barks. San Carlos is the heart of Magdalena Bay. It’s a dusty fishing town that by and large has not caught up with the modern era, which in many ways makes it even more appealing than nearby more developed spots. Small shrimp boats head out at sunset to fish through the night and banged-up dogs wander the dirt streets, while music spills out of homes with open doors and chickens peck at scraps in the dirt. 086 THE DISRUPTORS
